Following in Twitter’s footsteps, Meta recently announced a Meta Verified subscription service for Facebook and Instagram. Like many new products, Meta has chosen to trial it  here in Aotearoa and Australia.

It’s relatively expensive: $14.99 USD/month (iOS/Android) or $11.99 USD/month on the web (Facebook only) and this is paid per app.

So what is Meta Verified?

Meta Verified is a new government-ID verified subscription service.

The benefits are:

  • Verified tick & badge
  • Direct account support
  • Additional protections for impersonation

Why are they doing this?

Given a decline in users and revenue, we think it’s a way to grow revenue. And, they say it will make for a safer community with more verified users and less impersonators. In the past, it hasn’t been clear what the threshold is for the blue verified tick so now you’ll be able to provide verification and pay for it.

Who is it for?

If you use Meta for business, it might be for you. We can see it be super helpful for influencers and emerging brands as they build their following and trust. If you make your money on Facebook and Instagram, being verified may grow your business. It might also be helpful if you’re having Meta issues and you want some direct help.
