Kia ora Tevan, can you please introduce yourself:

Kia ora, I’m Tevan, a communications professional with a background in digital equity. I enjoy being in the ever-evolving world of social media, branding, and marketing. I am passionate about creating connections and fostering positive change in the tech community.

Can you tell us about your background?

I have a diverse background, with experience in the fashion and music industries, as well as a strong focus on digital equity and diversity within the tech industry. Alongside my work at Social Good and Te Hapori Matihiko, I am currently completing a communications degree at AUT, majoring in Advertising and Brand Creativity.

What are your reasons to work in this space?

Realising the significant amount of time I was devoting to social media, I made a deliberate decision to lean into it and shape it into my career. I’m drawn to the communications space because of its versatility across industries, enabling me to engage in diverse projects. It’s a privilege to work in a kaupapa māori space and connect to my culture through my mahi.

What do you love about the work you do?

I love being creative, design, it’s an industry which I can see a lot of opportunity for growth in. I love technology and want people to feel empowered to take space in this sector.

What gets you up each day?

My alarm (or 2) 🫣

What do you love?

Good design! I find it really inspiring to see communication for impact.

What’s your superpower?

I’m left-handed 🪄

If you could work on anything, what would it be?

I would love to art direct an editorial campaign shot underwater in the ocean. As a keen diver, I find peace in the water and the ocean is my muse. I’d love to explore themes of high fashion and conservation in a marine environment.

What are you most proud of?

I’m proud of establishing a successful career trajectory before graduating. Having not completed high school, I took an alternative pathway into my career, and I’m proud of the determination and resilience it took to forge my own path. Additionally, I take pride in my commitment to completing my degree, especially after facing the challenges of taking a break from my studies during the pandemic. This journey has taught me the value of perseverance and the importance of embracing alternative routes to success.
